The Resurrection of the Christ

I. The events following the passion and death of Jesus (Mt. 27:57-28:10; Mk. 15:42-16:8; Lk. 23:50-24:49; Jn. 19:38-21:23; Acts 1:1-8; I Cor. 15:5-8)

A. The burial of Jesus

B. The discovery that the tomb was empty

C. The appearances of the risen Christ

II. The relevance of these events

A. The resurrection of Christ is a fact of history.

B. The resurrection of Christ establishes the truth of Christianity. (Rom. 1:4)

C. The resurrection of Christ led to the establishment of the Lord's Day. (Lk. 24:1; Jn. 20:19, 26; Acts 20:7a; I Cor. 16:2; Rev. 1:10a)

D. The resurrection of Christ is symbolic of the new life of the believer in Christ (Rom. 6:4-7, 10-12)

E. The resurrection of Christ provides the assurance of our own future resurrection (I Pet. 1:3b-4; I Cor. 15:12-13, 20, 54-57)
